Lyrids Meteor Shower 2010

Lyrids Meteor Shower 2010
The annual Lyrid Meteor Shower, one of the oldest meteorite showers on record, is set to peak on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd, 2010. The Lyrid Meteor Shower is produced when the Earth passes through the trail of Comet Thatcher, producing the bright streaks of light as meteor particles burn-up in Earth’s upper atmosphere.Lyrids Meteor Shower 2010

Although this shower activity is visible each year from around April 16th through to April 25th, the best time to see the meteors will be in the wee hours of the morning on April 22nd (in Europe and America). Meteor-watchers can expect to see about ten to twenty meteors per hour at the peak of activity in dark sky locations.
