Amelia Earhart

aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart and the author is one of those being named among the eight wonders of the People of Kansas.

According to AP reports, "the Kansas Sampler Foundation announced the winners Thursday. The Salina Journal reports that in addition to Earhart, an Atchison native, became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, others appointed in the competition were the Buffalo Soldiers, George Washington Carver, an inventor who lives in Beeler, James Naismith, who invented basketball and lived in Lawrence, Channelview native and filmmakers Martin and Osa Johnson, and William Allen White, editor of a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper of Emporia.

Carry Nation, a crusader of the ban, and Emil Kapaun, a priest in question to holiness, also on the list.
