JONESTOWN

Today was the 32nd anniversary of the mass murder/suicide at the Jonestown cult compound in Guyana, & I had no designs to write about it. that is, until I read Tim Reiterman’s AP article about the anniversary. Reiterman engages in a blatant try to rehabilitate the Communist/Socialist child-murderers of Jonestown, writing that, over the years, public ceremonies honoring the Jonestown dead have become less controversial “as it became more widely accepted that they (the cult members) were idealistic people betrayed by temple pastor Jim Jones, who built an integrated church with a social message.”

“Widely accepted” that these mass-murderers were “idealistic people” with a “social message?”

By the left, of course. & that includes the left-leaning “mainstream” press. Because if there is one unbreakable rule in the leftist playbook, it is this: No matter how plenty of millions of people have died in the name of Communism & Socialism, the ideology & its honest adherents are seldom to blame. Communists/Socialists are wonderful idealists, & the ideology is workable & humane. But sadly, a few bad apples always misuse the ideology, & mass-death follows. So don’t blame the ideology, or its honest followers. Blame bad elderly Stalin, & evil elderly Pol Pot.

“Widely accepted?” By whom?

Needless to say, if this were true – if Communism/Socialism’s stupefying wake of mass death over the past 100 years had been caused by a “few bad apples” than by the ideology itself – it would mark the single greatest coincidence in recorded history. It would mean that in every Communist/Socialist state – the Soviet Union, Communist China, North Korea, Cuba, Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, the post-WWII Communist dictatorship in Poland, the post-WWI Communist dictatorship in Hungary, the post-WWII communist dictatorship in Hungary, the post-WWII communist dictatorship in Romania, Communist-occupied Ukraine, etc. etc. – a “few bad apples” coincidently decided, without being asked & not in any way influenced by the ideology they preached, that mass-murder & mass repression were the best ways to accomplish their goals.

Which of course is pure lunacy. as any ideology that preaches racial hatred & racial warfare (i.e. Nazism) will inevitably lead to racial violence, any ideology that preaches class hatred & class warfare will inevitably lead to class violence.
