Stadium officials in Minnesota may know by tonight whether the Metrodome’s collapsed roof can be repaired in time to host next week’s scheduled National Football League game between the Vikings and Chicago Bears.
Roy Terwilliger, chairman of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, said workers from Amherst, New York-based Birdair Inc. were arriving this afternoon to survey the damage and determine the cost and time required for repairs.
“Our goal is to keep that game here in Minneapolis,” Terwilliger said in a telephone interview.The Vikings are scheduled to play the New York Giants tonight at Detroit’s Ford Field after yesterday’s game was moved because the Metrodome’s roof caved in under the weight of 17 inches (43 centimeters) of snow, the biggest snowfall in Minneapolis since 1991.
